If LSU wins this race, they will break the Carnival record for most wins by a women’s college team in a single meet. The Tigers already have four victories: 4×100, shuttle hurdles, sprint medley and 4×800.

But first, the consolation final. Texas Christian had the lead most of the way, lost it to Auburn, then came back to win in 3:39.72. Auburn finished second in 3:40.90. Results are posted here

And now the championship. South Carolina takes the early lead. Penn State nearly takes over the lead at the second exchange, but LSU grabs it. Penn State moves in front on the backstretch. Penn State’s Shana Cox has a narrow lead over LSU at the final exchange.

Cox opens it up to a 10-meter margin and wins in 3:31.44 (the slowest winning time since 1999). LSU comes in second in 3:33.24, with South Carolina third in 3:34.81. Results are here.

This is the Nittany Lions’ second-ever Penn relay title. They won the 4×800 back in 1978.
