After the two Philadelphia Area heats, we have perhaps the acoustic climax of the meet, the always raucous High School Boys 4×400. Last year, as Long Beach Poly (CA) broke 3:10 while holding off St. Jago of Jamaica, the stadium literally started to shake. We have a number of excellent teams for the event this year, although it is overcast and a bit breezy.
The Jamaican schools, as usual, are well represented. At the first exchange, its Holmwood, but here comes St. Jago, our top seed. St. Jago opened up a 20 meter lead at the halfway . . . . maintaining its lead through the 3rd leg, and then the anchor allowed a series of teams back into the race. Long Beach Poly and Meade (VA) made solid efforts, but St. Jago wins in 3:15.66 – the slowest winning time since 1984.
