Our first high school relay championship on the track is the girls’ DMR.  The record, 11:40 by Vere Tech of Jamaica, is from 1992.

At the first exchange, we have two teams – Monroe-Woodbury (NY) and Tatnall (DE), unofficially in 3:31.

Tatnall opens up a lead on the 400 with a 57.5 split.

Shenendehowa (NY) is making a move at the end of the third leg, but Tatnall still leads by about 30 meters after an unofficial 2:19 on the 800.

The Tatnall anchor is running well, but Jillian Smith of Southern Regional is stalking . . . . it may be too much but we’ll see . . . .

The anchor for Tatnall runs an unofficial 4:59 to clinch the victory.  Jillian Smith ran a 4:53 but could not make up all of the ground.

This is the first HS Championship of America for a girls team from Delaware in meet history. The last boys team to win was Howard HS of Wilmington in 1962 (4×100).
