Pat Schelleberg (Delbarton School, NJ) took the lead just before the half mile and opened up a margin of 15 meters at the bell (3:05) and finished in 4:08.07, to just get under the Penn Relays record of 4:08.13, run last year by Canadian Jeremy Rae.
Isaac Presson (Asheville, NC) closed fast to take second in 4:09.16, the fifth best time ever at the Relays.

In the 3000, Kemoy Campbell (Bellefield Comprehensive, Jamaica) ran a bold race from the front and barely held off the frantic charge of Alex Hatz (Fayetteville-Manlius, NY) to win in 8:20.14–8:21.01. Those are the fourth and sixth fastest times ever at the Relays. Campbell becomes the first Jamaican to win this event.
