Our first boys’ championship of the meet is the High School Distance Medley relay.  This is an extraordinarily deep field.

Liverpool (NY) took a 40 yard lead with a 3:02.32 lead off leg.  Their 400m leg extended that lead to almost 1/2 a straightaway.  Good Counsel (MD) made a valiant effort during the 800m leg to make up ground, with Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (NY) also closing.  Liverpool continued to lead however through the first 400m of the 1600m leg.  However, on the 2nd lap, Good Counsel caught Liverpool and began running neck and neck, both about 50 yards on the field.  After running together for 600m, Good Counsel pulled away, holding off a late charge from Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake – winning time of 10:09.07.

The championship team consisted of Thomas Tallerico, Cortlandt Harris, Fola Shokunbi, and Kyle Graves.  They were the first Maryland team to win since 1964.
