Our first championship of this afternoon is the college men’s 4xMile.  Certainly Oregon might be considered the favorite in this race.  Many have felt that the 16:04 relays record, held by Michigan with Nick Willis, may be in jeopardy.

Oregon is running this race without Andrew Wheating, perhaps saving him for what appears to be an epic college men’s 4×800 coming up later this afternoon.

Mac Fleet of Oregon opened the race up with a 4:03, with Princeton, Georgetown, and Indiana in the front of a large group of teams.  During the second leg, Indiana took over the lead, with Princeton moving into second (ironically Oregon’s 2nd leg is Princeton’s Michael Maag who is running his 5th year at Oregon).  Halfway through the third leg, Princeton moved into the front.  Finally, with one lap to go on the third leg, AJ Acosta of Oregon put on a big surge and opened up a significant lead. Michigan moved into second, but perhaps 80 meters behind Oregon – Matt Centrowitz anchoring.

Oregon won convincingly in 16:15.14, the 9th best ever.  Auburn was 2nd in 16:20.41.

Full results here.  The anchor for Auburn, Felix Kiboiywo, ran 3:57.0.
