High School Boys 4×400 Championship

Always one of our loudest and most popular races is the high school 4×400 championship.  This year’s edition had arguably the fastest group of seeds of any 4×400 we have ever had – 3:16 didn’t even make the final !  Additionally, we had Cheltenham PA, a local team that ran 3:13 in the trials, qualify for the championship.

Vere Tech and Wolmer’s Boys, with Cheltenham making a move on the third briefly . . . but with fast 3rd and 4th legs, Junipero Serra moved right into mix.  The top three were within 0.5, with Wolmer’s outleaning Junipero Serra at the line.  Although the winning time wasn’t super fast, it was quite good for the colder windy conditions.  Both anchors ran 46 second splits.

I juct attenxded my first Penn Relays due to a relative running in the boys high school events. What a day. I haven’t seen such excitment at many other events. I had the pleasure of attending the 100th runnming of the Kentucky Derby, which also set a record attendance and the energy of the crowd was as loud and an insperation to all the runners. I know most people came to see the latter races but even the high school runners met with an enthoustic response from the crowd. I hope to return for the next few years to see my nephew continue to compete and enjoy all the excitment of the races. Thanks for a memorable day and good luck to all the althletes in their future events.

Why is there not more coverage on the United States O.D. Wyatt High School of Fort Worth, TX that holds both world records in the 4 X 100 and 4 X 200 meter relays?
Is it because you boys in Dallas and L.A. can’t stomach it?
Well stomach this. The college records in both events are also held by a Fort Worth school. T.C.U.
    SPEED CITY baby!!!!

    How about you?

Wyatt’s record is shown in the history. When was the last time they competed at Penn. They hold the record of 39.76 for the 4 x 100 since 1998. Wolmers won the race in 39.78 in the 2010 penn relays. Do you think that record is going to last for long! It’s great that the record has been standing since. However, I’m sure those athletes have long gone on to bigger and better things. So what do you want them to say? I’ve been going to the relays for quite a while and I haven’t seen Wyatt compete. Seeing that you are passionate about your alma mater, you should encourage them to send representatives to the competition. If you think they are that good? There are hundreds of schools US and Int’l that compete. I go to the relays because I love track and field and it’s fun to see people of different background and culture come together and celebrate. We tease each other and support each other. I sit in the same seats every year with the same set of people and it’s tons of fun. The US vs Ja rivalry (high shool not professional) is the best…all done in love for the sport.

If the Penn Relay committee is going to send for the best Jamaican HS to come & race, why not send for the best 6 USA HS teams? The Texas HS run just as fast as the Jamaicans.. The Northeast HS have 5 weeks to prepare & its very cold in April..When is the last time a HS 4×1 Northeast USA teams has won the Championship of America?..Im Just Saying…
