IU’s Daniel Stockberger set the pace for 600 meters of the 800 leg, before being overtaken by Arkansas’ Duncan Phillips and Villanova’s Samuel Ellison. [...]
The high school girls distance races provided a series of fast-paced thrills. For the second year in a row, we had a Penn Relays record in the girls distance medley relay. In an upstate/downstate New York battle, Fayetteville-Manlius held on against a late charge from North Shore to win in 11:34.46. That eclipses the 11:38.69 [...]
Emily Infeld brings it home for the Hoyas (Photo Kim Spir) As is custom for our schedule, the first championship of the meet is the College Women’s DMR. The race started approximately 100 minutes late due to the thunderstorm delay, but by race time winds were calm and temps were ideal with perhaps a slightly [...]
Perhaps overshadowed by the events in the 4×100, the USA-vs-The-World Distance Medley has a fantastic slate. This event produced the World Best and the American record in the 2006 edition. Both Kenya and Morocco have outstanding fields in this race, including Amine Laalou. Our 1200 leg was in 2:52, with Kenya with a slight lead. [...]
Our first boys’ championship of the meet is the High School Distance Medley relay. This is an extraordinarily deep field. Liverpool (NY) took a 40 yard lead with a 3:02.32 lead off leg. Their 400m leg extended that lead to almost 1/2 a straightaway. Good Counsel (MD) made a valiant effort during the 800m leg [...]
The University of Oregon captured its first-ever Penn Relays Championship of America with a relatively easy 9:30.69 victory. Oregon’s Matthew Centrowitz Jr. broke away from the pack on the final straightaway of the opening leg and took the lead at the first exchange. Oregon maintained its lead through Chad Barlow’s 400, with Penn State second. [...]
Blacksburg (VA) smashed the Penn Relays record in the girls DMR with a spectacular 11:38.69 clocking. That erases the 11:40.51 run by Vere Tech (Jamaica) all the way back in 1992 and is the ninth fastest time ever by an U.S. high school team. Joanna Stevens (4:48.43) ran the decisive anchor leg for Blacksburg, coming [...]
Our first college championship, a highly anticipated event, is the rematch of the NCAA Championship between Tennessee and Oregon in the College Women’s DMR . . . . a great race where Tennessee won again.
From USA Track & Field A storm is brewing in Philadelphia. The world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, will lead Team Jamaica into Franklin Field on Saturday (April 24) and look to give the island nation just its second win in 11 years in the men’s USA vs. the World 4×100-meter relay at the 114th Penn [...]

Our college athlete of the meet for relays is Matthew Gibney of Villanova with his excellent come-from-behind victory in the DMR, splitting 3:58.4.
A truly international field: Australia, Canada, France and Kenya take on a pair of U.S. teams. Matthew Lincoln gives Canada the early lead and Tyler Christopher maintains it. Khadveis Robinson (USA Blue) is stalking Canada’s Gary Reed on the 800 leg, and hands off in first. Four anchor legs — Canada, Kenya and the two [...]
Joe Rosa of West Windsor Plainsboro North leads after the first exchange (3:07.4), with Cardinal O’Hara and Don Bosco close behind. WWPN held the lead after the 400, but Upper Dublin’s Paul Reilly moved to the front with a little less than a lap to go on the 800 leg. WWPN’s Tyler Corkedale was having [...]
Texas is going for its fourth consecutive Penn championship in this event. Slow early pace (2:00 @ 800) on the first leg, until Arkansas broke it open to hand off first in 2:56.0. Villanova, Princeton and Texas follow. A 46.8 kept Arkansas in the lead, but Villanova’s Elvis Lewis closed down the gap. Princeton and [...]
Our first high school relay championship on the track is the girls’ DMR. The record, 11:40 by Vere Tech of Jamaica, is from 1992. Duke gave it an early challenge, leading at the first exchange, but after that Tennessee took control and had it in the bag. The first relay following the individual running events is the distance medley. The defending champion, Texas, is entered here this year. Obviously any other team will have to contend with Leonel Manzano (Texas’ very fast anchor). We have had 56 distance medley championships, and 37 of them have been won by Villanova and Arkansas. Texas, [...]
We have the High School Girls DMR on the track. Saratoga Springs took an early lead in the 1200, but was caught by Warwick Valley (NY) and Holy Name (NY).
