High School Boys Distance Events

The high school boys distance medley relay turned into a two-way duel between Christian Brothers Academy (Lincroft, NJ) and Central Bucks South (Warrington, Pa). Nick Vena Completes the Shot Put Four-peat!

Prep superstar Nick Vena of Morristown, NJ, won the boy’s high school shot put for the fourth consecutive time! No other schoolboy has won more than two titles. To top it off, he broke his own Penn Relays record, hitting 72′ 9-1/4″ (22.18). That improves the 72′ 2-1/5″ (22.01) he set in 2009.

Sarah Pease of Indiana outlasts Claire Michel of Oregon, winning the College Women’s Steeplechase. Pease won the Drake Relays steeple last year – and now has a Penn Relays championship as well. Certainly a very interesting double !

College Athletes of the Meet for Individual Events
Our collegiate athletes of the meet for individual events are Rachel Laurent of LSU and Jeremy Hicks, also of LSU. Laurent set a meet record with a 13-10 1/2 pole vault clearance, and Hicks won the long jump in 26-3 on his last jump. Hicks’ mark was #7 All-Time.

Much nicer weather this morning, 56 degrees at 8:50 am, when our first running event, the high school boys 400H, goes off. Jordan Rispress of Hilliard, Ohio, wins the first heat in 51.89, the eighth best time ever at the Relays. Results can be found here.
2009 High School Individual Distance
We have two individual events tonight before out high school girls 4×400 championship, the mile and the 3000m. Jeremy Rae of Lakeshore (Ontario Canada) has opened up a very large lead at one lap, with an approximate half-mile split of 2:04.
